Ministry of SMEs and Startups Partners with Amazon and Mercado Libre to Accelerate K-Beauty Expansion in Brazil

The South Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) is strengthening strategic cooperation with global e-commerce platforms Amazon and Mercado Libre to accelerate the entry of promising domestic K-Beauty brands into the South American market. This measure is a government-wide support initiative designed to help K-Beauty, which has shown high growth in the global market, successfully establish itself in Brazil, the largest market in South America, beyond North America and Asia.
According to foreign reports and local media, the MSS is building practical infrastructure to ensure that K-Beauty brands can smoothly enter local platforms and expand sales, reflecting the high interest of Brazilian consumers. In particular, the strategy is to significantly lower the logistics and marketing barriers faced by domestic SMEs by combining Amazon’s R&D capabilities with the distribution network of Mercado Libre, the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America.
Brazil is one of the world’s largest consumers of cosmetics, and local demand for Korean cosmetics has surged recently alongside the spread of K-Culture. Seizing this market environment as an opportunity, the MSS is establishing customized entry strategies that reflect the skin types and preferences of local consumers, rather than simple product exports. To this end, the ministry plans to focus on increasing brand awareness through data sharing and marketing collaboration with local platforms.
This collaboration is significant in that the government is acting as a bridgehead in the South American market, where it is difficult for K-Beauty companies to enter individually. Support for entry into Mercado Libre is expected to maximize touchpoints with local consumers, while logistics optimization through Amazon is expected to shorten delivery times and reduce costs. This is expected to be a major turning point for domestic SMEs to secure global competitiveness.
Local media are evaluating the MSS’s move as a highly strategic choice for the global expansion of K-Beauty. Although the Brazilian market is known for high entry barriers due to geographical distance and complex customs procedures, the pace of entry for domestic companies is expected to accelerate with the backing of systematic government support. This will serve as an opportunity for K-Beauty to establish itself as a more familiar brand to consumers around the world.
An official from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups stated that through this cooperation, they will continue to monitor and prepare additional support measures so that K-Beauty can secure new growth engines in the South American market. The government plans to further expand public-private partnership models so that promising SMEs can achieve results in overseas markets by utilizing global platforms.
This entry of K-Beauty into the Brazilian market goes beyond simple cosmetics exports, demonstrating the process by which Korea’s excellent beauty content and technology are being incorporated into the mainstream of the South American market. For global K-Content consumers, this news suggests that Korean beauty trends are expanding worldwide and foreshadows that the influence of K-Beauty in the South American market will further expand in the future.
